Enlightened Couple

I was originally attracted to this pair by her cross, but he would not allow me to take a photo of her alone. In fact, he is quite stylish himself with the Chinese shoes and jacket mixed with an outfit that is fairly preppy. He commented that before going into the work place, Chinese young people follow the Korea and Japan for style inspiration. Once they get white color jobs, the rather restrictive style guidelines of the West must be followed. Right now, of course, he added, Chinese youth are swept up in the craze for all styles English, which seems to be the global zeitgeist. Though she wears the cross, she is not one of China’s millions of new Christians.

You work really hard! This piece was not even here this afternoon. It is interesting to notice the man is carrying the girl’s bag for her. That seems to be even more common than non-Christians wearing a cross here. When I was a kid in the late 80s in Beijing, we even bought Jesus on cross as necklace pendant. We didn’t know what that really was.

Yeah, do Western men carry the handbags of their [non-Chinese] girlfriends? Haha, it would be funny to see the savior himself, in his loin cloth, as part of some heathen’s fashionable ensemble. I guess they would probably think he was a rockstar or celebrity. Thank you for being such an avid reader of my blog, Meng.

I really like her layers and the grey kneehighs.

what I find most interesting is his jacket, the length is great and from the buttoning it looks like it has a bit of the “traditional Chinese style” done in a modern way that looks really good instead of laughable and costumey…

From personal experience: Chinese men do not carry the handbags of their non-Chinese wives…
Also think she is pulling off the shorter sleeve jacket very nicely.
I’ve seen some horrible abuses of this look this season.
