Stylites in Beijing at Harvard

_10

Recognize these guys?  They probably didn’t expect to be on posters all over Harvard.  This photo along with around fifty others from Stylites are part of an exhibition called “Pop! Contemporary Street Fashion in Asia” opening this Friday, November 21.  The opening will be from 7 to 10pm in the Piper Auditorium at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and will include wine, beer and images and garments representing street fashion from major cities of Asia, including Bangkok, Beijing, Hanoi, Manila, Seoul and Tokyo.  If you are in the Northeast, please charter a jet to go up to Cambridge.  If you need accomodations in one of my homes in the Boston area or directions, please email nels@stylites.net.

The exhibit offered street fashion from many locations, including Tel Aviv, perhaps for contrast. The opening was fun, the installation lively with symbolic street trash in plastic bags.

I guess not everyone knows how clean of discarded plastic bags Beijing has become since the government decree banning these awful inventions. But the photographs from Beijing showed plenty of reusable bags on people’s arms. Beijing’s classic grey brick walls and traditional doorways contrasted with the trashiness of street backgrounds with graffiti, broken concrete and the like from Tel Aviv to Hanoi.

Great to see so many shots from this blog on display.

Congrats on the exhibit, but I have to say that’s a bad photo for the poster/flyer

They aren’t very interesting fashion-wise, but I like the pose. I didn’t select the picture for the poster.

Group shots really stood out in the exhibit. People come in groups too, not just individuals. Of the 3 or 4 group pictures the dynamics in this was the most interesting.

Am I the only one who saw this exhibit?
