Happy Valentine’s Day; A Beijing Couple

These two high schoolers were out enjoying the weekend. I was very struck by the fellow’s trousers.
Valentine’s day is always a time of great consternation for me, so I don’t really have the spirit to say more at this point.
very interesting pictures with interesting outfits, thanks for your posting.
Maybe they’re his PJ pants? Haha, he probably thought it was cool to wear PJ pants in public – like American kids!
Could be. Of course, wearing PJs outside is popular among adults in this same neighborhood.
I’m very struck by this photo, mainly because I remember how things were when I was a highschooler in beijing. A lot of things have changed, but I’m most struck by their attitude – something you couldn’t capture 10 years ago.
What in particular about their attitude?
It’s laid-back, even a bit lazy but still positive; it’s loud and not subtle but also relaxed and without aggression; it’s different and offbeat but yet not weird. There’s confidence, genuine happiness and a touch of proudness in that photo. I think the kind of energy/attitude they possess is very unique – something you can’t find on youngsters in NYC, or London, or Tokyo. 10 years ago in Beijing, you were either brainwashed and without an identity as everybody else, or you looked like an angry, anti-social weirdo in one way or another.
wow i want his bag…oh they look so cute together
