Italy Pavilion Uniforms at Expo

I guess giving the “Best Uniforms at the Expo” award to Italy is not exactly a shocker, especially given that they are designed by Prada.

The fabrics were a little bit too techno for me – I often find this with Prada – but the color and pattern matching is quite memorable.  I will talk more about the Pavilion itself later, but Italy deserves to do well in the China market after such an effort.  Having the backing of such major fashion houses helps of course.

The whole thing was quite effectively branded.

One gets the impression of an Italy that is not only stylish but also playfully modern.

a joke, i assume. prada and all other houses who stick large metal brands on their clothing are nasty.

It was quite a pleasant surprise to see Chinese university students dressed in Prada designed uniform at the Expo. If only I had uniform like this when I was a student…

These were genuinely my favorite uniforms at the expo…sorry.

As far as all the branding goes, I think it is a good strategy. Of course I don’t like obvious labels like this either, but these sorts of events are about spreading awareness about your brand.

That said, the people who are seeing the Prada logos would probably only be able to buy a super-diffusion line. There is a risk of brand dilution if they keep doing this sort of project.

Are you at the expo? I’m going in September, would love to hear what you think.
Prada’s branding still isn’t as obvious as the logo placements of Vuitton, Gucci, or even Chanel.

from a marketing perspective i’m sure it makes some sense, but aesthetically its so straightforwardly terrible:-|

it seems like it makes you very vulnerable to knockoffs too, because anything with that stupid prada triangle looks like prada, basically. how would you make effective knockoffs of say, APC?

well, that is quite true. That metal Prada thing is on fakes throughout China. Brands without logos are harder to copy and more tasteful in the original form. I am rather predictably anti-logo myself.

However, I would persist in saying that Italy uniforms are not terrible compared to the other uniforms at the expo. I think they will be memorable not just for being Prada, but for their snappy design. Tasteful or classic or not, they stand out and most people I spoke with thought that it was in a favorable way.

Ok. compare to Gucci and LV, Prada’s logo is a lot more discreet. The triangle logo is just for one particular line, mostly nylon bags. It is from almost one hundred years ago, the usage of the logo now is to show heritage.
On most Prada leather bags, the logo is quite hidden.
I love the uniform in Italian pavilion! Playful and the silhouette is very Prada.
