Stylites

At the Former Embassy

Cao Difei with the Creative Director of Loewe was on the porch of the pre-Communism US embassy, now home to French restaurant Maison Boulud, after a fashion show by Loewe, Spain’s answer to Hermès.

Cao Difei is quite interesting.  Beyond being a fashion expert with an extensive collection of colognes, he is also an accomplished singer of traditional Beijing Opera.  This movie on youku (in Chinese) talks more about his life and hobbies.

支持人曹涤非是个特别有趣的人。除了对时尚很了解以外,他还唱京剧。在优酷上可以看到关于他生活的电影

    超 帅!whadya mean,Spain’s answer to Hermes?
Loewe is already part of LVMH group…and there isn’t room for TWO Hermes in one company, right?
You saying that Arnault should drop his bid for Hermes?

Here is the latest on that: http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2010/11/10/lvmh-defends-large-hermes-stake/

It seems to be still controlled by the family. Anyway, I’m sure LVMH does make sure that the brands under it preserve their own DNA. Actually I got that idea, because one of their marketing execs described it that way.

Well, LVMH does try to preserve each brand’s own DNA but they also do make sure that the brands bring them and their shareholders benefits. If not, they will try to sell it in the Christian Lacroix case after 17 years, which is understandable as well.

The Big Bad Wolf also promised the little piggy not to eat it, if the piggy would open the door.
Bernard Arnault is being particularly disingenious in citing a “foreign threat”as a fig leaf for his own strategies;this device is favoured usually among politicians.
Perhaps Hermes should be seen as more than just a brand like Celine (starting to look like a brand for banker spinsters, by the way) or even Dior under the LV stable.
It is a French institution(albeit still driven by the $$$ motive) and its identity is certain to be altered to corporate requirements under the umbrella of a multi-brand co.
Good for shareholders maybe, not so good perhaps for diversity in the fashion biz.

    Ciao Lucia I agree!

The redeeming part of LVMH is that even though they promote and bastardize Veuve Clicquot throughout the world, they let their other champagne brand, Ruinart, do their own thing; I quite recommend Ruinart…
