5. Cool Couples5.

For the first couple of years of Stylites, a reoccurring problem was that girls I wished to photograph were often accompanied by rather dowdy males. These males were often very protective of their girlfriends, not letting them be photographed. The guys appearing here were rarely accompanied by girls. Recently the boyfriends have started to catch up.

Continue reading 5. Cool Couples5.

Most of 2010 fell in the Year of the Tiger. From the start, there was speculation that it might be a year filled with feline prints, always a favorite of China’s fashion types. Most opted for spots that suggested more cheetahs or leopards than that most majestic of big cats.

9. Ankle Fetish9.

This year, come hell or more likely high-water, Beijingers were determined to show ankle cleavage, which seemed to always be cuter on the girls.

10. Tans and Yellows10.

When I first heard camel was the new color for 2010, I was almost amused, since it always seemed to be one of the basic colors, but was a bit difficult for some skin tones. Conventional color matching guides often suggests that Asians go for high-contrast colors like white, black, navy blue, red and avoid pastels and particularly beige, orange and gold.

Professorial Hutongs

Though I wouldn’t even notice a guy like this in a Western city, he really stood out in the hutongs. More bicyclists like this visiting professor would be nice.
