Wang Qiuren （王秋人）is an artist that I met at Art Beijing last night.
I was most drawn by his leather bag.
Peipei and boyfriend Pang Kuan (the keyboardist for New Pants) own the shop on Nanluoguxiang called Bye Bye Disco and just opened a bar right off the street by the same name. They are actually having a series of after-parties there this weekend. I spoke with Pei Pei about her retro, the Nanluoguxiang area and other subjects.
NF: What are some of the changes you have seen recently in how young people dress?

Fish is a college student from Guangdong. She describes her style as “retro” and her favorite designers are Vivienne Westwood and Martin Margiela. Her favorite places for shopping are Beijing’s Gulou Street and Hong Kong.

Shenshen, fashion editor at Madame Figaro, was at the Rechenberg show. She has an overwhelming Beijing accent when she speaks on the phone in Chinese, though her English is nearly perfect due to having spent some time in Washington when she was young.

Amy is a retro kind of girl. She hopes to live in a courtyard nearby Nanluoguxiang and shops at the secondhand market. From Qingdao, she studied design in Beijing and now works as a designer at Wanda Place. I have a pair of red brogues just like hers except in suede.

Just revealed are costumes for the Shanghai Pavilion at the Expo. Designed by students from Shanghai Donghua University, these uniforms are for staff, volunteers and technicians. I can’t believe that Zhang Chi has not appeared on Stylites before. A very Beijing sort of boy from accent to attitude, Zhang Chi went to the UK to study at 16 and later pursued a master’s degree in Milan, Italy, at Istituto Marangoni. Returning to China in 2010, his collections have shown at China Fashion Week. One of his main themes is a medieval knight brought up to the 21st century. I suspect we will have a more in-depth interview with him here in the near future.
