In Burberry

Many people were wearing the latest threads from Burberry. The Vogue EIC Angelica Cheung was wearing the exact same coat that night.

Many items seemed to be from the now available Spring 2011 collection, the theme of which was “heritage biker”. For this collection, designer Christopher Bailey was inspired by biker gear created by Thomas Burberry in the early 1900s. We will try to find out how many of these items are purchased at the full Mainland price. For the time being, have a look at this piece our friends at JingDaily have on the price discrepancy between the Mainland and abroad.

Ilaria’s DesignerIlaria的设计师

Antonio Bandini is the designer for Ilaria. He used to work under Valentino. His coat is from Prada, though I think he fastened the bow-tie on the lapel. Currently there are no plans for an Ilaria menswear collection though China might be a better place if there were. There isn’t really a local brand for boys that is stylish – but not painfully avant-garde like the work of most young designers – in high-quality fabrics and simple cuts.

Despite the name, the brand Ilaria is based in China and founded by a Chinese woman, though the designer is Mr. Bandini, an Italian. Here are pics of the looks that were on show. “>Here are pics of the looks that were on show. The founder of the brand Ms. Ilaria He formerly lived in Italy.

The Main Issue最关键的

Visiting from HK, Jimmy is one of the top designers of Izzue, a falgship brand for Hong Kong’s massive I.T. group. Izzue is expanding rapidly in China, and has outlets in Thailand, Malaysia, Macau, Taiwan, and Saudi Arabia.

Jimmy is know for his often gothic-influenced, edgy, very androgynous designs for both men and women. London, where he studied fashion, is also a key influence. We will have a longer interview with Jimmy here next time he comes to Beijing.

Not Plastered Today今天不Plastered

I ran into Dominic Johnson-Hill by the Opposite House in Sanlitun. He founded one of Beijing’s most acclaimed tee-shirt boutiques, Plastered 8. One of my favorite websites, Nicely Made in China, has an interview with Dominic.

我在三里屯的瑜舍碰到江森海. 他是PLASTERED 8创可贴T恤的创始人. 我最喜欢的网站之一, Nicely Made in China, 有采访了他.

Absolut ArtistAbsolut 艺术家

I ran into pop artist Gao Yu at the Case da Abitare event the other day. He designed Absolut’s first-ever China Limited Edition bottle, Absolut 72 Bian, which takes inspiration from the the Monkey King who transforms 72 times in the course of the 16th Century novel Journey to the West.

我在《居Case da Abitare》碰到了高瑀,设计了绝对伏特加专为中国定制的中国限量版“72变” (Absolut 72 Bian)酒瓶。今年很多活动都用了他设计的这个酒瓶。

Mega Mengmeng in Masha Ma

Masha Ma worn by Mega Mengmeng

Also at Lane Crawford, fashion writer and stylist Mega Mengmeng is wearing a coat from a series that she is designing together with Paris and Shanghai based Chinese designer Masha Ma, called MegaMengMeng by Masha Ma. Here Mega Mengmeng is on a London street style blog.

Masha Ma, based between London, Paris and Shanghai, is one of the most famous fashion designers in China at the moment and she has received an amount of coverage in the Western media to match that distinction. In this Guardian article, the Central Saint Martins graduate who also worked directly with the late Alexander McQueen, explains the secrets to success in the exciting fashion market that is China – apparently the first trick is to embrace the chaos. Here are interviews on the Kering site, the South China Morning Post, and the Time website.
