Candy Strand Skirt

A Stylites post was recently featured on a tumblr called Wearing the pants that collects pictures of women wearing menswear-inspired outfits. For women, such styles have long been fashionable, whereas the man-skirt still turns heads and seems a bit provocative. Also at the David Ubl event, fashion designer Xiao Qiao’s colourful number was created by a friend of his.

This past Saturday, German designer David Ubl presented his summer collection at Beijing rooftop terrace bar The Beach. Unfortunately due to rainy weather, the show was transferred inside. This did not stop the city’s fashion folk from dressing up as their usual chic selves. Here is Chictopia Designer Qing Yang who already appeared on Stylites during this summer’s festival season.

Time to Bike

While at the Colors Magazine Transport event, I asked some guests how they get around.

Shanghai-based Psydee Yang, who works in advertising, just bought a new Forever bike in deep purple. Now that the weather is cooler, she is hoping to ride it to work more often.

The commute: Subway takes 20 minutes, bus 15, walking 30 and bike 15.

More Info on Bulgari

Due to time constraints, I don’t always get to fully introduce all of the various events I attend here. Fortunately, I scored invitations for my colleagues over at the Jing Daily. Their site now offers a nice overview of the Bulgari Retrospective at the National Museum.

New Order Bassist in Beijing

I normally don’t mention music events here, but this seems particularly special. Peter Hook from New Order, among my favorite bands, will be performing here in Beijing at Tango this Saturday (9/3) at 9:00 pm. Click “more” for the details. I commented before that New Order, like the Pet Shop Boys, would be a good choice for one of those mega-fashion events here in China (but of course New Order is longer together).

I met Interior Stylist Ruby at Migas’ new rooftop terrace opening party last week. She has an exiting new project which you will hopefully hear more about soon.

At Uma Wang

Last Friday, Uma Wang was presented with the Audi Progressive Designer 2011 Award at the brand’s showroom located on East Chang’an Avenue. The event featured an exclusive preview of her 2012 winter collection which was started off by dancers in black dresses and slashed leather tops. The collection included beautiful asymmetrically cut heavy wool coats, dresses with a draped signature back, all-over print ensembles (a progressive trend?) as well as thickly woven sweaters paired with slim patterned pants. The fundraising auction that took place after the show sold a polka dot coat, leggings and dress for 30,000 RMB. The money will be donated to UNICEF in order to support Audi’s fundraising efforts for adolescent education in China.
